Cablecar

Bio

(biog from their website)

Cablecar are four young men from Warrington - they are Aid Burrows (vocals / guitar), Dave Cheetham (drums), Matt McWilliams (bass / keyboard) and Rich Robinson (guitar).

Upon deciding to form a band back in 2001, they chose the name Cablecar as “it provides a good view, but is a little precarious”, and then set about trying to fuse together everything from Nilsson’s ‘Everybody's Talkin’ to ‘How Soon Is Now?’ by The Smiths.

They went on to gig in and around Warrington and the North West, and began to write and record in their own studio; the release from time limits and financial constraints freeing them from any creative leash.

Cablecar say of their songwriting, “we take an idea and push it in every direction, to see if we can stretch it to the moon, to fill all the gaps, to make it larger than the sum of the parts and risk being passionate with it and about it. Sometimes a song comes together so fast we eye it suspiciously for weeks, but at other times its a hard labour. But it’s like trying to digest a tennis ball - you’ve got to get it out of you, and its probably going to be painful.”

Having made the final eight in Xfm’s unsigned competition earlier this year, Cablecar were discovered by fierce panda during their demo competition with sister label Temptation Records. The end result: Cablecar’s debut single ‘Wasting Time’ was released on October 27th.
