Purity Ring - Shrines

tphrthms by Christopher T. Sharpe
The post-Bjork/Knife field of dark, shadowy beats and haunted female vocals, perhaps bore fruit more than any other sub-group of synth-pop this year, acts like iamwhoiamwhoami, Grimes and Purity Ring themselves engaged in similar yet exquisitely divergent riffs on a core set of sounds and ideas. The quality-control on their singles has been sublime, and those tracks are still the shining lights of the record as a whole, but the overall mood, production and mesmerising quality of Purity Ring’s shell-shocked romanticism mark this record out for particular acclaim.
