Bio
Seattle, WA based band comprising of several noted musicians from the Seattle scene. Led by singer/guitarist Mat Brooke (ex-member of Band of Horses and co-founder of Carissa’s Wierd), Grand Archives represents a change in direction for Brooke with light subject matter, high flown melodies and hope, high spirits and a sense of camaraderie forming the staple of the bands sound.
Brooke formed Grand Archives (formerly just Archives) with a trio of friends in September, 2006. Drummer Curtis Hall (The Jeunes), bassist Jeff Montano (The New Mexicans), and guitarist/keyboard player Ron Lewis (Ghost Stories) shared his desire to make great pop, rather than curse the darkness and guitarist Thomas Wright signed on shortly after. Sharing a common objective to recreate the vocal harmonies of the 1960s Californian sunshine pop of bands such as the Beach Boys, The Association and The Turtles - they set to work and soon released four demos via the Internet in early 2007. A prominent rise stateside saw them go from a bottom-of-the-bill, midweek first show playing to a small Seattle club, to being signed by Sub Pop, to supporting Modest Mouse over much of their 2007 US tour.
