44 year old Hirschbiegel makes his film debut with The Experiment. He is already an accomplished television director,in his native Germany, specialising in crime stories and thrillers. The Experiment won Hirschbiegel the Best Director prize at The Montreal Film Festival,and swept the board at the German equivalent of the Oscars.
