The Afternoons formed in Tenby in 1999. They released an EP,
My Beautiful Monkey, on their own label (Saturday Records) in the summer of that year which won them a Radio 1 session. One of the tracks they recorded,
'A Change in Season', was made one of the NME’s singles of the week when released in August 2000, and described as “a black and white film of a song… it hurts so good.” The band signed with Cardiff-based independent FFVinyl and released two further singles (
'Calico', 'Falling is Easy') and an album (
'The Days We Found in the Sun', Sept 2001). All were reviewed well in the national and foreign press;
'Falling Is Easy' being voted in the top 30 best international singles of 2001 on Spanish radio. In the autumn of 2003 the band are set to release a double A-sided single
'Gonna Stay Together'/'For A Fool' and an album,
'My Lost City'. Both releases are on Cardiff label Dockrad.
