Kraftwerk - Tour de France: Remastered
In my childhood Manmachine & TEE was my most played LP’s. I was in college when I first came across "Tour De France Etape 2" .I was at first delighted to learn that a new kraftwerk song is out but soon I was dissapointed with it( unfair to judge it based on one listen ). Then 10 years went by, & I forgot about it altogether & went back listening to Manmachine\TEE\Computer world\Autobahn. Last month I rediscovered this album & this time I listened to it closely & well, its still getting better with every rerun. While the TDF suite may seem boring at first, you will discover new sound patterns with every listen & soon it becomes an obsession. Awsome is the word for it .Vitamin is funky & catchy & IMHO the best track in the album . The album version of Elektrokardiogramm\Aerodynamik\Titanium is somewhat underwhelming & dry(no melodic hooks).LA Forme, with swirling morphing bleeps & blissfull synth hooks , reaffirms that Hutter was the genius behind the kraftwerk melodies not Bartos(Proof : My 55 year old uncle asked me if its a kraftwerk track when I was playing it on my mobile . He knew nothing about this album before that). The last track is a rearranged version of the original Tour de France(1983) .
A great album it is & even if it may not be groundbreaking by any means , it is still a classic kraftwerk album & in my opinion their 4th best . Based solely on the musical quality & disreagrding the "ahead of their time" factor,I will rank TDFS ahead of Autobahn\Radio-activity\Electric Café & just a little behind computer world, Manmachine & TEE being the joint toppers .
