LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
Personally, this is my favourite album of the year and by far LCD Soundsystem's best album. It pickes up where 'Sound of Silver' left off and really cements LCD Soundsystem as one of the define bands of this generation. With this album I feel I can hear a progression in their music, their first eponymous album was really a patchwork of all their influences as a statement by James Murphy who basically said "I've been listening to great music for 35 years and this is what I want to sound like". 'Sound of Silver' then took that raw sound and refined it so that LCD Soundsystem could acredit a masterpiece to their catalogue, and is probably the reason why so many people love it all the more. However, I argue that 'This is Happening' sees the band take it one step further. With 'Sound of Silver' they had something to proove, but with 'This is Happening' James Murphy's already proved it and can enjoy the subtly and grandeur of his songwriting capability. This album feels like Murphy has been let loose and can enjoy himself rather then just please the critics.
