The average length of an episode of US sitcom 'Cheers' was 30 minutes. Dublin's The Cast of Cheers weigh in at just over that with their sophomoric album/debut 'proper' - "Family" - a clear intention of energy and immediacy. The first few tracks showcase the quartet's frenetic math-rock approach; all intricate hi-hat and tight snares, punchy bass, guitars that stab, squeal and sometimes create delicate spider webs, topped off with frontman Conor Adam's bark. There's other layers at work here, though. 'Palace and Run' is a slow-burner, starting from a disguised acoustic number to a crescendo of "Remember! Recall!" and then back out again while 'Marso Sava' injects a little bit of a Vampire Weekend vibe, with it's tom-heavy beat and yelped vocals. The album closes with 'They Call It A Race', an apt title for the breathless rush of the last 35 minutes, and the band's rise into the public conscious -where, hopefully, everybody knows their name.
