Following a leak that stopped Weird Era... becoming the fan surprise Cox had intended, the ever-whimsical frontman at one point suggested he might scrap it entirely; it’s as well he decided not to, as quite aside from it actually being the better of the twin records, Weird Era... was clearly more emblematic of the direction the band are headed in, if new EP Rainwater Cassette Exchange is owt to go by.»

As you're doubtless getting bored/angry with the reams of subjective blather DiS has been throwing up over the UK's flagship festival, our mini Glastonbury preview week today hands the metaphorical mic to a selection of people who, er, know how to use a real one. All performing at the festival this year, Maximo Park's Paul Smith, Fucked Up's Damian Abraham, Emmy The Great and Broken Records' Ian Turnbull have all gallantly turned their little grey cells to pondering the meaning of the modern Glastonbury Festival.»

Some time around 2004, DiS got mildly excited when Courtney Love released her first single as a solo artist. Many would disagree, but 'Mono' was something of a choon, and hopes were medium high that parent album America's Sweetheart would be as fine an ou»

Dando fucks Varshons up just enough to stop it being an actively great covers record – in recent terms The Condo Fucks’ mighty Fuckbook stomps over it – but not enough to detract from the truth that the thread drawing the successful songs together is the still-beating talent of Evan Dando, non-dickhead version.»

In celebration of managing to wheedle Glasto review tickets and a photopass for the first time (oh, and also it being one of the biggest musical and cultural events in the British calender), DiS is having a wee Glastonbury week this week, in advance of everybody actually going buggering off next Wednesday. We kick off with a ponder over what the festival is meant to mean to the average indie kid in 2009.»

I have a distinct sensation Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca might be one of the greatest albums ever made by man or beast, or it would be if its sheer brilliance wasn’t – on one level - so daunting. Time and time again Dave Longstreth’s songwriting throws up something madly, wonderfully oblique, something that not another songwriter would have thought of, let along successfully committed to disc; yet it feels kind of hard to love it in direct proportion the actual amount of genius that hums and crackles and pops from its every impossible angle. It is, let's be clear, still pretty lovable.»

So here is the DiScussion: should the indie online press – who I’d imagine to a person consider themselves morally above the gossip pages, tabloid rags and freesheets that cover equivalent events to the Wavves meltdown in the ‘real world’ – feel any sort of responsibility to keep perspective and balance in their reportage of such matters? Or is it just a harmless bit of fun? Or good online business? Are we basically Pitchfork's bitches, unable to pass a story they deem to be big news? Or have I wildly missed the mark in suggesting the incident – barely commented on in the actual Primavera thread – wasn’t a big deal? We’re all familiar with the build ‘em up, knock ‘em down cycle, but is it in any way fair that Nathan Williams is going to be saddled with a rep for years - if not his entire career – because Ryan Schreiber sent a couple of tweets as something to do?»

After a somewhat brutal weekend (musically and physically) at ATP Vs The Fans Part II, it was with some trepidation that DiS loins were re-girded for its sister weekend. But actually we had a quite lovely time; maybe it was the more cohesive line up begat from having a proper curator; maybe it was something to do with it being sold out; probably it wasn’t the uber-tetchy security (um, did they spend so long looking over the top of the girls’ cubicles as the gents’?); whatever the case, a fine weekend, and one of the better overtly indie editions.»
