Ludovico

Panic Attack

Label: One Records Release Date: 28/02/2005

7810
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver March 8th, 2005

A four-minute mish-mash of rock ‘n’ roll influences and under-the-influence-isms, Glasgow quartet Ludovico’s debut single is as impressive as they come. Ears tuned to the sounds of shredded guitars and blown-open amplifiers will find aspects to appreciate; likewise, those partial to all things melodious will enjoy the soaring chorus of ‘Panic Attack’. Iskandar Stewart’s vocals - forever asking “Where are we going?” - open proceedings with a Springsteen squeal, only to collapse into something altogether more guttural (which spells R-O-C-K, pretty much).

B-side ‘Looking In The Mirror’ suffers a mid-song dip, but possesses bite enough, and Stewart a rasp sharp enough, to suggest that these newcomers might just go the distance. Where are they going, then? Without wanting to place too many eggs in a single basket, the sensible money’s got to be on onwards and upwards.
