Hybrid Kid

Dropped

Label:

athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas March 6th, 2002

Hybrid Kid claim to have a "desert country" feel in their music. I have no idea what this means. My interpretation is that this is indie-dance (or baggy if you prefer) with an occasional country and western lick. But we're not talking a hellish combination of Happy Mondays and Garth Brooks here, the lead track is reminiscent of Iggy Pop's The Passenger and the other two on here are immediate and poppy with an Ocean Colour Scene vocal delivery. Final track Cotton Head has a certain slow burning anthem appeal.

Could they be the next big thing? It's distinctly possible, there's a certain creativity within their own pre-defined mainstream limits. Sensible enough for football fans, catchy enough for daytime radio. All that and their vocalist is called Igor - which in itself is pretty cool.
