Hosh

Maria

Label: Virtual Records Release Date: 02/03/2001

chrisnettleton by Chris Nettleton March 9th, 2001

Hamburg five piece Hosh's first single seems to be pitched slap bang in the middle of the mainstream of modern rock, and it's pretty good. The single, 'Maria' has all the makings of a big rock hit, a big singalong chorus, nice quiet/loud drops… the second track * 'Killer Ants' * also doesn't disappoint. Good tune…big chorus…

The third track is a bit more fun and games , with lots of_ 'ooooohh aren't they TIGHT'_ bits, but I would say is a bit weaker than the first two. Still… third track…

I do miss an angle, and it might be a problem for them. In this day of hype and headline, how do you sell yourselves when you are merely good? A more gritty sound, like the young americans all appear to have, would help…perhaps enlisting the ilk of Ross Robinson (depending on bank balance), or maybe Hosh could go the way of Devin Townsend… whatever… but I do hope that with their forthcoming album they have more of an angle than this, or they will be invisible, and that would be a shame.
