Beatglider

We Gotta Coast

Label: Lakota Release Date: 30/06/2003

jsutton by Jo Sutton July 7th, 2003

'We Gotta Coast' is Beatglider's debut single with record label support, a consequent venture after their time spent high amongst the magic confined within the Hollywood Hills, miles away from their former musical hinterland of Rayleigh, Essex.

They appear to have bought back with them a track with plenty more than just a hint of the late, lamented Pavement, being that it's teamed with a sound that emulates the distinct ‘90’s shoe-gazing scene.

Track two assimilates the long, drawn-out nights of summer with a meandering, no-clear-directional stagger and innocent, folky interludes comparable to fellow contemporaries Alfie, while track three slips and deceives its way momentarily into post-rock territory, with their own perverse tangible twang.

A strange combination, and one that provokes, in their own words “an engaging yet unpolished feel”, but I can’t quite work out if that’s supposed to be a good or a bad thing...
