DiS Users January 2015 Album Of The Month

BMS1 [Edit] [Delete] 13:25, 25 January '15

** RULE CHANGES** **VOTE FOR TWO ALBUMS**

Vote for your favourite album and also runner up the album of the month. Make your selections clear please as it makes tallying up the scores easier. If you list a whole bunch of albums without making your selections clear I'll take the first two mentioned as 1st and 2nd place. Sorry to be a pedant.

Your album of the month will get two points and 2nd placed album one point. If you name only one album I'll give that two points.

I've noticed that on occasions there's a Facebook post of this thread. On a few occasions last year I think the Facebook votes changed the AOTM compared to votes here alone. If it's acceptable I'll only give Facebook people one vote which will only get one point. It's an attempt to weight the scoring heavier in the favour of DiS users that take the time and effort to vote and discuss the albums released rather than just naming/listing artists that I've seen on the FB post. Hopefully, the end result will much more reflect the opinions of actual DiS users.

My album of the month: Sleater Kinney - No Cities To Love
2nd place: Menace Beach - Ratworld

A pretty good album and return by Sleater Kinney. The album certainly isn't up there with their best such as Call The Doctor and Dig Me Out but nonetheless is a very good album. Last year's Ex Hex album is far better than this SK album and I'm probably looking forward more to seeing Ex Hex live than SK if I'm honest.
Menace Beach were a relatively recent discovery for me. A fun spikey British guitar band that have a sound that's a sort of nod to that of Superchunk. Worth checking out. I'm tempted to see them live next week to see what they're like.

Belle and Sebastian's album was yet another disappointment for me. Perhaps I'm getting old and preferred their extremely twee stuff when I was in my early 20s but personally B&S still haven't released an album as good as any when Isobel Campbell and Stuart David were still members.
I gave the new Marilyn Manson album half a listen. It sounds pretty good and will give it a full listen later.
I was listening to the new Jessica Pratt album released tomorrow via the npr site. It's good but no Angel Olsen.

Mention as many albums as you wish but please make your top two clear. I'll keep this thread open until the afternoon of Sunday 1st February so you'll have nearly a full week to check out tomorrow's releases. VOTE NOW!!!
