Not an acquaintance, romantic partner or relative but an actual friend, as in someone you would regularly hang out with and do stuff together and feel ok asking for advice and discussing deep stuff with them. Could be someone who was previously a total stranger, or someone who you already knew (e.g. work colleague) but then moved closer into friends territory.
