Bill Frisell - FFO Low, Yo La Tengo, Tortoise, Dirty Three

ninetyeightytwo [Edit] [Delete] 13:04, 28 August '15

Bill Frisell is a jazz guitarist from Baltimore who's been active since the mid 80s. I gave him a listen on my brother's recommendation, and it's stunning.

Though what he does could be classed as jazz, his chilled, vaguely menacing southern gothic sound will appeal to fans of sprawling yet understated indie rock.

The best place to start is his Quartet album, parts of which were used to soundtrack an animated adaptation of Gary Larson's Far Side cartoons. Parts of it sound evil:

Brighter, breezier, but no less wonderful, is his Gone, Just Like A Train album. I was drawn to this because of the Jim Woodring album cover. Parts of it sound like the Twin Peaks soundtrack:

Enjoy - and if you know of anything that sounds like this, I'd love you to share.
