My parents don't care much for music. Long car journeys were soundtracked by power ballad CDs -- the power of love, Meat Loaf etc.

Music was never really played at home. Their CD collection consisted of Chicago, Billy Idol, Heart and Take That, which says a lot about their ambivalence.

Only later did I discover that my dad was a new romantic. All the music he bops to, when he hears it on the radio or in a supermarket or whatever, is full of synth.
