New Rave - 10 years on...

Pentago [Edit] [Delete] 12:20, 24 February '16

Tying in nicely with the thread on the social board the other day about what was hipster in 2006, Vice takes a look at how poorly regarded New Rave is now, coupled with the lasting effects that it possibly had on youth culture:

For me, the most interesting thing that the article addresses is that it did feel like a time when the traditional tribalism between guitar and electric music fans broke down, helped in no small part by the fact that file sharing suddenly opened up pretty much every back catalogue ever to anyone who was interested. These days, declaring yourself to be solely into guitar music would sound fairly daft given that everyone is into everything. Also, why is it that whenever music is grubbing around for the next 'scene' the default option seems to be 70s NYC punk worship?

Stuff that you remember fondly from New Rave? The first CSS and Klaxons albums are pretty decent tbh tbf...
