I'd forgotten that Animal Collective's Deakin had launched a Kickstarter to fund a solo album back in 2009 and tbh, who cares, right?

Well, wrong I guess, cos it's my favourite Animal Collective record since MPP. Pitched somewhere in spirit between the freak folk of Feels and neo-psychadelic pop of Strawberry Jam, but with it's own sonic palate, it's a gift to fans nostalgic for that era who've become a bit tired of the diminishing returns/often kinda grating electro-pop of the last couple of albums. Not a leap forward in sound, and definitely not one that will convince the AnCo haterz, but a welcome return.

The album uses field recordings that he collected from his Kickfunded trip to Mali and most of the kickfunds he gathered were apparently donated to an anti-slavery charity.
