Y'see, this I don't hear. Does having a gravelly voice make you a soul singer? Apparently...
Rod Stewart - that's him, there, pictured - has been called the "best white soul singer" by the Godfather of Soul himself, James Brown. Face to face, no less.
Does that mean he's the best singer of white soul, or that he's the best singer of soul who just happens to be white? See, it's a fairly ambiguous thing to be sayin', no? Anyway, Stewart was quite obviously made up:
That's what James Brown told me. I was very flattered. I went backstage to say hello and he was in very good spirits. Seemed to be all there still upstairs. His knees are playing him up and I told him I've got the same problem."
My knees are playing up, too. One's sulking in a corner and I've sent the other to its room. No, wait... knees, children, knees, children, heads, shoulders, children, toes...
