Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster - Blood & Fire

Review by Mark Powell

It’s been a dusty old hiatus since 2004’s The Royal Society. We’re happy to report that, in the downtime, TEMBLD’s piss has indeed turned to vinegar - and that as a result, they’ve never sounded more caustically thrilling. »

the eighties matchbox b-line disaster emerge from the mire - having found a new home at black records - with new album, 'blood and fire'. the record they emerged with, sounds like an effortless resurrection; both reassuringly earthy and vital, yet startling in its dense evolution. 'labaramus' and 'riptin' are riot-raw swamp-pop in the classic tembd tradition; 'don't ask me to love you' is a mature desert rock stomp akin to nick cave dodging between the legs of a gigantic josh homme; 'i hate the blues' is as rough and sinister as a grindhouse trailer. it's a record of ever more violent extremes: 'monseiur cutts' is their hardest screamcore track ever - this bastard would have disturbed running crying for their mamas - while 'so long, goodnight' is their first ever ballad. yes, ballad.
