Swim Deep - Mothers

Review by Christopher McBride

It isn’t the classic album that Swim Deep have been aiming for, but it feels like they’re tantalisingly close to reaching it»

Swim Deep release their second record, 'Mothers' on Chess Club / RCA. It follows their 2013 debut 'Where The Heaven Are We', and features recent tasters 'To My Brother' and 'One Great Song And I Could Change The World'. It was produced by Dreamtrak, and was recorded late last year in London and Brussels. The album takes you a wild trip which could be described as a modern day 'Screamadelica'. It pushes the boundaries with it's spirit, batshit crazy moments and hooks. Standouts are the show glitz woozy Motown cut 'Namaste', nine minute juggernaut 'Fueiho Boogie' which mixes Krautrock with The Prodigy and Damon Albran and 'One Great Song And I Could Change the World' which has the clattering force to rival Primal Scream.
