This is a bit of a departure from the kind of obstreperous hard-edged punk the fledgling Cardiff-based *Newest Industry *label has released of late. In fact, considering their label is effectively an offshoot of self-absorbed punk fanzine _Fracture _it’s a wonder a band like *The Paperbacks *were even considered. But then with their hazy Indie rock veneer it is something that’s pretty hard to resist no matter what you're musical preference is.

Hailing from Winnipeg, Canada this quintet manage to stir an enticing blend of calm, soothing rock, mixing the warm countrified instrumentation of fellow Winnipeg natives The Weakerthans *with the sweet melodies of *Beezewax. Inside this cool cocktail lies an enchanting outlook on the world, all absorbed introspection and radiating with a poetic charm.

As such _‘An Episode of Sparrows’ _is a beautiful Indie rock album, it’s delicate sweet-tongued exhalations making for a wholly invigorating listen, and a regular mainstay in your stereo. And with such intelligent lyricism throughout they're a band that you feel you're getting to know better with every listen.

As tracks like _‘Bridge’ _and _‘Local Celebrities’ _provide a warm, leaf-shuffling soundtrack to the coming autumn months The Paperbacks are really the only hand you’ll need to hold.
