Doves

Black And White Town

Label: Heavenly Release Date: 07/02/2005

Welcome back* Doves*. It’s funny that the band return with a song which laments the continual changing of their history and landscape whilst themselves staying EXACTLY THE SAME. Well, it’s not that funny. More a remark.

Thumped chords, slow burning choruses, a sense of bloodied yet unbowed majesty, and that warm comforting feeling of a returning loved one.

A little more complex, a tad more progressive, but essentially cryogenically frozen in musical time. And while we’ll never back inertia over forward thinking, some bands get to a point where you know it’s just right.

The song? Social alienation, despair, uneasiness, Northern stuff. The usual. Grrreat.
