Interpol

C'Mere

Label: Matador Records Release Date: 11/04/2005

Is that a Burberry scarf Paul Banks is wearing in the video for this, their third single from the critically-adored album 'Antics'? Are Interpol trying to reach to the masses?

Probably not, although it does appear to be a piece of Burberry attire... however, returning to the point in hand, the notion of Interpol stretching beyond their current level of acclaim seems to be slight - it doesn't matter how much of an excellent progression from debut 'Turn On The Bright Lights' the new record is, you can only reach so many when your writing is immersed in such joyous gloom. But that should worry no-one and please quite a number. 'C'Mere' is certainly not going to do it, being another well-crafted but essentially rent-a-slab of Interpol - not as coruscatingly brilliant as 'Slow Hands' or as self-immolatingly wonderful as 'Evil'. Yes the guitars scorch and hum in the right places and Banks emotes the right feelings, but it's confirmation that Interpol really aren't a singles band. But then again - who cares? We have whole LPs to cherish, what more do you want?

Well, maybe some consistency - man you guys totally sucked at Brixton on Friday. sigh...
