Eels

Hey Man (Now You're Really Living)

Label: Vagrant Release Date: 02/05/2005

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver May 3rd, 2005

An odd lead single considering the slow-moving dynamics of Eels' latest (double) album, Blinking Lights And Other Revelations, 'Hey Man...' is a catchy, incredibly upbeat number that can't fail to find a home on innumerable indie rock radio stations. Of course, it's not all flowers and sunshine and end-of-rainbow leprechauns - Mark 'E' Everett's lyrics remain as astutely insightful as ever, and pack a bittersweet punch that belies the joviality of the music around them.

Ultimately this isn't the single to sell the accompanying album in question - the two are very different beasts in the cold light of the bigger picture - but in terms of FM-friendly indie rock efforts this'll do just fine.
