Heroes Of Switzerland

Disposable Fiction

Label: Release Date: 12/09/2005

With the exception of Carl Jung, you would be hard pressed to find many multi-faceted heroes from Switzerland without digging deep into the history books.

That said, these Heroes Of Switzerland aren't Swiss. Instead they're from Nottingham, nowhere near Zurich either culturally or geographically, and certainly not as conventional as Geneva.

The current line-up having been together no longer than 18 months, 'Disposable Fiction' is a remarkable collection of songs, and certainly well above the average batch of "sounds like so-and-so" demos often received at DiS Towers.

The title track is a semi-spoken word lament shrouded in distorted white noise before the chorus kicks in like some long lost Dinosaur Jr monologue. The desolate tone of 'Waiting' and ceramic blaze of 'Fall' show the Heroes Of Switzerland in an entirely different light, with the former echoing the dizzy solitude of 'Nowhere'-era Ride as a paean to lost innocence and the latter, with its opening mantra declaring "As I spend my waking hours waiting for the summer showers", providing a sweet and sour mix of bludgeon and kisses that may turn out to be the perfect anti-depressant for anyone still in mourning over Six. By Seven's sudden departure.

So let's salute these Heroes one and all. Your favourite new band may just be around the corner...
