Sometree

Hands And Arrows

Label: Dance To The Radio Release Date: 05/03/2007

21404
tom_edwards by Tom Edwards March 9th, 2007

It may well have been said before, but it's hard to deny: Sometree’s singer has a voice that is not exactly a far cry from Keane’s Tom Chaplin. Equally, while they may subscribe to the more traditional guitar-led line up, their music isn’t entirely dissimilar to that ivory-tinkling three-piece either.

Yes, Sometree come from that long, long line of pretty interchangeable European bands that includes Lorien and Poor Rich Ones; all aching inside and more than happy to use overblown orchestral flourishes and chiming guitars to make damn sure we feel their ‘valid’ indie-boy pain.

They are also rather well versed in the Vague Longing Lyrical Rulebook™, so instead of finding out exactly what misery they are harping on about, all we get is insights as useful as “You’re in my way again/I catch your eyes and fade”. We’re also told multiple times that this elusive object of affection is either “always so tired” or possibly “always inside” (do we have a lyrics ed?) – either of which sound like more than satisfactory excuses to avoid a date with this dreary lot. Perhaps the next single will be entitled ‘Washing Her Hair Tonight’ or ‘Her Cat Dies Once More’. I do awfully hope so.
