Planet Sound’s new loverboys, The Music are here with their new EP ‘You Might as Well Try to F**K Me’. Do they live up to the hype? The answer, based on this EP,is a resounding yes. With an early Oasis-like intro, complete with Liam (all right, I’ll stop embellishing on this one) on tambourine, track one swiftly moves on to a catchy refrain of the title, and a skilful, swirling guitar interlude and conclusion. The live energy of the performance is extremely well captured. The futuristic beats and cacophony of ‘Karma’ lead to a dark, early-Garbage esque, Subhuman chant. Coupled with the pounding drums, Massive Attack are mimicked to full effect, and that effect is good. ‘Treat Me Right On’ is the perfect mixture of the first two songs, and is again, excellent, with the ghost of Liam at his prime rising from the ashes. The concluding track, ‘Too High’, however, is a huge disappointment on this otherwise nefarious EP, with a whining, snotty Kevin the teenager vocal, and not even the pleasing instrumentals can save it from the void of rubbish.
