The Cooper Temple Clause

Film Maker

Label: BMG Release Date: 21/01/2002

_kp_ by Kate Price January 10th, 2002

'Film Maker' sees experimental indie rockers The Cooper Temple Clause proving that they too can do the oh-so-fashionable preened indie starlet thing just as well as any of the other names doing the rounds at the moment.

As a follow up single to 'Lets Kill Music', 'Film Maker' comes as a bit of a surprise. There's a distinct lack of the electronic experimental sound previously heard from TCTC, and more of the speedy drumming and intense guitar riffs that seem to be filling the radio waves at the moment. I'd even go as far as to compare 'Film Maker' to recent chart offerings by Muse (of course, without the unbearably piercing and whiney noise that is the voice of Matt Bellamy). There’s a similar thing going on with the guitars, and of course there’s the use of minor guitar chords, which Muse seem to have inadvertently claimed ownership of.

It seems quite clear that The Cooper Temple Clause are setting themselves up for want of chart success this year, and 'Film Maker' is their first bid at attempting that. It's a thousand times more catchy, chart-worthy and stick-in-your-head than anything I’ve heard of the 'Coopers before and all credit to them – it’s a fantastic song!

With the release of the 'Coopers debut album, 'See This Through and Leave' looming, 'Film Maker' is an ideal song to set them up for plenty of record sales and a big year ahead. Lets just hope they can live up to such high expectations.
