Trayscrape

Bring On The Noise

Label:

athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas February 18th, 2002

A three track cd from Surrey’s answer to Limp Bizkit. Trayscrape have been going since 1999 and their sound is honed if not instantly accessible to everyone. Kids in hoodies are going to accept this immediately but older rap metal fans will appreciate the able scratching, tight arrangements, and the obvious influences they’ve taken from more established standard bearers such as Machine Head and Rage Against The Machine.

Bring On The Noise combines a headbanging riff with Public Enemy samples and deft vocals. Abrasive sounds suspiciously like something from MTV2 after midnight before charging headlong into a volley of drums and guitars that screams Slipknot. Final track, Clothed, may be simplistic in lyrical analysis (fashion is BAD!) but it’s got another tight riff and a good playoff between the two vocalists. The scratching leaves Linkin’ Park standing as well. But be warned, the drummer discovers he’s got two bass drum pedals five seconds before the abrupt end.

Trayscrape aren’t going to win over anyone from the pop/rock divide but for fans of the genre they provide something heavier than Durst’s nursery rhymes whilst keeping clear of the hardcore extreme.
