The Return Of Generation Toyracer

Label: Toyracer

shays by shays May 21st, 2002

This is nice, it manages to collect together a huge range of different styles of bands and mash them all up into one release. Some of the bands are not that good, some are very good, others are in-between, and a few are just down right weird. But that is not what is important/good/bad about this release. The entire compilation CD manages to capture a sort of togetherness, an 'us against you attitude', an 'us vs. the rest of the supposed underground'.

Listening to the compilation reminds me just how much I was love with the DIY scene. For a period of time I fell out of love with it, but I'm starting to fall in love again… it won’t be like the first time. But then again it, never is. That’s probably the best way to describe this compilation: a long lost bad relationship that you still hold dear. That once every so often comes back into your life just to remind you how much that you miss it. To want to be involved again in it? Well, that is another question. Just maybe though.

A special mention must go to Purple Munkie - _never sit with your back to the cupboard_ is special. It's very very special. In fact credit must go to all of the artists who have got of their backsides and done something and contributed to this release.

It's worth getting just for that reason. That this compilation is released with and by a true DIY spirit. One that has been marred and copied over recent years, but that still manages to have that certain special this is special, this is now, this is ours type of attitude.
