The 'Burn

Smiling Face

Label: Hut Recordings Release Date: 27/05/2002

rluckett by Robert Luckett June 13th, 2002

The 'Burn supported Oasis at their Shepherd’s Bush gigs in October. You can see why. Safe, unassuming, dull, unexciting - everything that Oasis have turned into, The 'Burn are.

Their debut single, "Smiling Face" is as horribly mediocre as you'd fear. It all sounds like a record manufactured to be 'authentic', to appeal to narrow minded 'real music' lovers. From its simplistic "Sun and sky" lyrical metaphors to its grating harmonica part, The 'Burn represent all that's wrong with British Guitar Music.

This is a single bereft of any character, feeling or charm. Ignore The 'Burn. You have no need for them.
