Kinesis

Everything Destroys Itself

Label: Release Date: 05/08/2002

rubbafish by Colin Weston July 29th, 2002

On the 17th April, 1999 a large void became part of my life. On this day in history, indie rock gods, Cable, decided to call it a day. The void has now been filled and it is by Kinesis.

I know the bands are not EXACTLY similar but neither are they to The Pixies, the mostly widely branded comparison but you CAN hear it the bands sound and their new single just keep that feeling going. 'Everything Destroys Itself' is just over 2 minutes long and from the opening chords, the song rocks you. From the repeating introductory guitar riff to the angry yet delicate vocals. The band show all dimensions from making you want to pogo to the slow swaying and fragile break with soft, sighing backing 'Ahhhs'... fantastic!

Second track '...Zyklon B' is superb and strong enough to be a single in its own right! The chorus is just pure & concentrated confrontation taking a vocal form. The almost screaming chorus and verses epitomising all the band are... talented, abrasive, intelligent and right in your goddamn face!

The single finishes off with the best song Cable never released. From the chord structure to the vocals to the lyrics, it is just divine. It is kinda reminiscent of 'Freeze The Atlantic' in the verse but the chorus changes that all around when it is taken in a different direction by guitarists Michael & Conor.

The fact is, these teens from Bolton ARE the future... and I am glad as with these leading lights, the future looks much brighter for British rock music.
