Kosheen

Harder

Label: Arista Release Date: 19/08/2002

2181
athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas August 17th, 2002

The first time I heard Kosheen it was with their drum'n' bass spectacular, 'Slip N Slide Suicide'. At that point they were raw and vibrant with their closest contemporaries living their lives on the UK underground. Since then quite a lot has changed. 'Hide U' put them on TOTP, 'Hungry' surprised the world by not turning up on a Burger King ad ("are you hungry, for a little more, than you had before..."), and now 'Harder' brings you Moby backed by Roni Size. So yes, the 200mph drums are back and, yes, the synths are driving forward. But there's tinkly 'Porcelain' piano here as well and the vocals are the calling out style most favoured by Dido.

So it's not rebellious and it's not tough, and even Blazin' Squad could kick their ass but ultimately it's a pretty good modern pop song for adults.
