The Shining

Young Again

Label: Zuma Records Release Date: 02/09/2002

2243
gdobson by Gareth Dobson August 29th, 2002

*It wasn't looking good for The Shining, *previously dismissed** by myself at least as shameless beer-and-fags rock relying on past glories and leaden influences. **

Therefore, it's a pleasant surprise that this, the third single preceding their debut album is a welcome leap in quality. Yes, its another consciously 'big' anthem, but it achieves its size without the use of a tacked on string section or lamentive strum. Its just a very good solid tune, based around vocalist _Duncan Baxter's refrain of _"Yes, I feel young again", which by the end has gone somewhere darker, swampier and more groovesome than you'd reasonably expect for a band currently being lined up for Embrace comparisons.

One question, if Baxter is in his early 20's, what on earth has happened for him to need to rediscover his youth? You ARE young?
