Negative For Francis

Losing Control/Love Bug

Label: Marquis Cha Cha Release Date: 21/11/2005

holliy by holliy November 18th, 2005

Negative For Francis - a three-step initiation plan

  1. Spend several minutes pondering who Francis could be and what kind of Negativity might be winging his unwary way.

  2. Play side one and discover a straightforward slash-disco-rock number, cutting between jagged dancefloor thrash and jangly tuneful choruses. Entertaining enough, yes - but surely the target-market of People Who Need More Thrashy Arty Rock In Their Lives cannot be large enough to justify putting any more of the stuff out there?

  3. Get onto side two… and discover that, contrary to original impressions, NFF are actually heir apparent to The B-52s and the Love Bug is a direct evolutionary descendent of the Rock Lobster. Become ridiculously overexcited and sell everything you possess in order to charter a plane to a remote pacific island and dedicate the rest of your life to the search for the mysterious many-legged-rock-beast whose coming is heralded by the twinning of high-pitched, borderline-imbecilic high-pitched warbling with a tacit rumbling threat of a bassline which is utterly contradictory in mood.

In summary, then: Disco pop punk on the subject of delusional anthropomorphising? YES.
