Club AC30 #6

Label: Club AC30 Release Date: 21/11/2005

domgourlay by Dom Gourlay November 30th, 2005

Having already churned out glorious singles by the likes of Sambassadeur and Air Formation, not to mention the exquisite compilation that is 'Never Lose That Feeling', Club AC30 have gone and done it again.

'...#6' is as it says on the packet, the sixth EP release since London's most organic club night that celebrates those who may have celebrated themselves decided to put out records as well.

Standing out from an admittedly impressive crowd on here are The Battles Of Winter, whose swirling epics of skyscraping beauty recall Slowdive if they'd been given a quirky scousepop twist by the likes of Wylie, McCulloch and Cope. The incendiary 'I Became A Station' quite simply stands out like a luminous red painted lighthouse in the clear night sky, and can only be a mild precursor to greater things for them in the future.

Coming up on the rear are the delectable tones of Xero-Kline, whose 'Contours' sounds like an even fuzzier retake on The Boo Radleys' 'Kaleidoscope' and Australian post-rockers International Karate, their 'Falling Water' scoring vital points for proving that peace and tranquility when put into musical form need not necessarily equate to boredom.

Instead of scuttling around the country's toilet circuit every night of the week looking for the next [INSERT NAME HERE], maybe it's time London's A&R freeloaders looked a little closer to home, as Club AC30 have clearly been responsible for some of the best new music heard anywhere this year.
