Not a single soul has ever taken teen-sensations Eve 6 seriously outside of the US shores. Their Self-titled debut records was one of the most criminally over-looked debuts of recent times. With hooks higher than the Empire State building and chorus' you'd willingly pawn your granny for, the music press and public of this country shunned one of the catchiest collections of tunes for eons, and after listening to 'Horrorscope' one can only hope that lightning does not strike twice.
Eve 6, formed in Los Angeles in 1996 at the ripe old age of 16, are a name with which not many people are familiar with but give them time and pray that there is any justice in the world and the band should reach the heights scaled by their punk-peers. With a more sincere, grown-up approach than Blink 182 and a guitar sound to die for, the punk-rock three-piece have a mature sound that bands that have been doing the rounds for years would kill for. To think of what the boys will be able to do in the years ahead of them is nothing short of phenomenal and, while the first album had it's merits, 'Horrorscope' is a much more polished and diverse record that may pass you by on the first few listens but rest assured this album will eventually catch up with you at all the pace of a hurtling juggernaught. This isn't to say that there isn't any songs that are going to grab you by the neck and slap you in the face on first listen, the sublime funk-pop fizz of 'Rescue' and the adrenaline rush of 'Amphetamine' are as instant as anything out there in the big wide world of rock, assuring themselves a flight on that big old 'Bands destined for the sky' list. The band also show a lyrical prowess that surpasses their age and would melt any heart as is evident on the yearning promises of er....'Promise' and the heart-melting sincerity shown on 'Here's to the Night'. Songs like these enough to put even the most cynical of people into a dewey-eyed daze. If only Bon Jovi would take notes on how to be both thought provoking and mushy while still maintaining a sence of credibility.
So Eve 6 produce another corker of a record, just don't let this one slip by unnoticed like you did the last one. Alright!
