The second CD I've received from this Birmingham based five-piece, 'Wide Eyed Ideas' showcases the group over six tracks and really isn't too bad.

The opening track sets the mood, a well honed rock track with powerful soaring vocals and a chiming guitar line. By the time we hit the chorus someone's stomped on the fuzzbox and on cue the vocals explode into the throttled shouting much favoured by Hundred Reasons _et al_. Speaking of which, the comparisons don't end there. Tiny Blue Children may think of themselves as "indierock" but they're more emo than anything else. No bad thing of course, "indierock" being a genre so maligned it would lose an election to the Tories.

The other tracks largely follow the big guitars and shouting in the chorus template. Track three, 'Dissolve', however is a little different. There's a piano tinkling away in a vaguely Coldplay motion to start with. It's a little more reflective than the rest and a welcome change, though the big chorus does push them perilously close to Nickelback territory.

Energising yet embittered, 'Wide Eyed Ideas' shows great promise should the band stick it out long enough to acquire a following to sing along to every word. Once that happens Tiny Blue Children could be chosen by many more as their catharsis of choice.
