It’s funny how some bands are often heralded as ‘The New (insert million selling band name)’. These statements are particularly chuckle-worthy when the comparisons have no musical grounding whatsoever. The Glitterati and their first major label EP, ‘Here Comes a Close Up’, are a case in point. Heralded in certain areas of the music press as "Britain’s answer to Guns n’ Roses", on this evidence the Leeds five piece fall very short of the mark.

In fact the three tracks that make up this release rumble along like your standard rock-schmock, sounding more like something from Barnstaple than Sunset Strip. Gutteral screams cover heavy guitars... etc, etc - you get the idea.

Saved only by final track ‘You Need You’, which has a dynamic character totally absent from ‘Here Comes a Close Up’ and ‘Gimme What’s Yours’, this EP just fails to excite. If you’re going to attempt sleazy rock n’ roll, your tunes have got to ‘have it’. Rather than dirt-ridden and unhinged, The Glitterati proceed to give us clinical and straightforward.
