Asobi Seksu/Mahogany/other shoegaze better than pizza and Starbucks

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 07:27, 6 July '07

I admit I was frightened of Asobi Seksu's lead singer.. reading about how she sings half in English and half in Japanese. My only experience with that sort of thing is It's No Game (Part 1) off Scary Monsters. Bowie's collaboration there is completely brilliant (and not just because it's bowie... the japanese gal steals the show here) but I'm still scared of non-english speaking vocalists. I'll avoid racism attacks by simply stating I prefer to sing along sometimes, and my danish, japanese, french, italian isn't what it should be. OK? But my shoegaze hunger is ready willing and almost financially able to over come this prejudice.

So which Asobi Seksu? Citrus, I believe, is the new one, eh? That's supposed to be good.

And I've also heard through the grapevine an equally impressive bunch of new shoegazers is called Mahogany. All I know is that they're from America, the new home of shoegaze (though I'm still looking for this mythical 2nd Amusement Parks on Fire album someone mentioned earlier).

Which Mahogany album?

Now, I'll probably have to forgo my slice of pizza and frappacino tomorrow for lunch to afford this... but fuck it. What else have I missed shoegazy-wise lately. (Yeah, I remember that danish band lyle, Rums-- something... ok, I don't remember the name *exactly*.)

I'll spare you my rant on why the "shoegaze" tag is actually a pretty fucking brilliant description for the genre. And how I thought DiS's own sean adams made it up! Another time, shall we say? Bet you can't wait!

New Shoegaze!
