Ash - The Second Album conundrum

ben6984 [Edit] [Delete] 14:22, 6 July '07

So I went to see Ash at Koko's last night, and they played 'Folk Song', from 'Nu-Clear Sounds'. Barely anyone in the audience (myself included) recognised or remembered it. It occurred to me that there can't have been many bands, if any, who have released five or more albums, and yet the second album is the least recognisable. It's not important whether Nu-Clear Sounds was any good or not.

Thinking about it afterwards, I couldn't name a single band whose second album would be so unfamiliar to fans. If you think about it, the second album is usually the key from the record label perspective. If it flops, bands rarely continue on to any significant degree of success.

Can anyone think of a band for whom a similar situation might be true?
