New GoodBooks single / music for intellectuals

ben6984 [Edit] [Delete] 11:42, 11 July '07

I heard GoodBooks on the radio last night for the first time - somehow, they've managed to completely pass me by until now. Their new single 'Passchendaele' - rather catchy, and great lyrics from my perspective - I studied Modern History at Uni.

It seems to me that there's a bit of a trend right now for bands with a more "intellectual" approach to lyric writing, from the more mainstream Maximo Park and Bloc Party, to GoodBooks and iLikeTrains. Am I imagining this, or is there a trend here, and if so, does this genre need a name? Intelli-rock? Smart-indie? KOR (Knowledge-orientated rock)?
