Music Social More…

do you give a shit about sound quality?

smezzer [Edit] [Delete] 00:56, 20 July '07

i know a fair number of people who "love" music, but are quite happy to listen to music at 128kbps. Basically, they disgust me. 128kbps disgusts me

Anyone who says there is no difference between 128 and 320 (my preference) either has ears clogged up with jizz, or has a fairly poor sound system. But nowadays, saying you think a good musical setup is important is tantamount to declaring your love for incest. A lot of people would say technically good sound systems are the domain of musos, the type of people who crywank themselves to sleep with masturbatory semi prog instrumentals playing through their perfectly balanced Technics systems. No, all you need nowadays is winamp through some okayish pc speakers

In the 70s the done thing was to have a freakishly good soundsystem to show off your new LPs. Nowadays, we're back in the age of transistor radios with barely discernable hooks and choruses breaking through laptop speakers and crappy ipod headphones. Nobody gives a fuck anymore. It doesn't matter "how" something was recorded but what exactly was recorded.

And its killing music, or at least changing the way its consumed completely. And it explains the increased popularity of live music over the past few years as well (fuck how it sounds, if you can recognise the chorus then all is good)

Basically, this is all a vaguely cogent ramble. Sorry. But if you dare disagree with me prepare for a lifetime of hatred from yours truly

rassssss clart
