Holy sweet mother of all that is good, that man is a genius. A GENIUS. I mean, we knew that already, right? But live. I love the show. I love the choreographed dance steps, right down to every little head-swish and foot-tap. I love the fact that every note is planned to the millisecond. I love the energy, the outfits, the gold heels he had on. I love the brass section. I love the funky drummer. I love the line 'I'm so funky I can't even sleep with myself'.

But most of all, MOST OF ALL, I love the fact that one man can play a set so utterly fucking brilliant and mindblowingly spectacular that it can render the fact that I'm watching a gig in a cross between Bluewater and Pride Park, with pretty poor sound and a set of people who clearly only leave the house once a year, completely irrelevant.

He started with 1999, he finished the main set with Purple Rain and the encore with Nothing Compares 2 U, and inbetween he played Controversy and 7 and Alphabet Street and Cream and Kiss. Amongst others.

Awesome stuff.
