"Love music, Hate racism"

yes_ [Edit] [Delete] 22:41, 6 December '07

I love music! I really do. I listen to it quite a lot, I would definitly give it at least 9.6.

I hate racism!
Actually, wait... I DON'T hate racism.
Obviously being racist is pretty bad. As Morrissey says, "Racism is beyond common sense and I believe it has no place in our society".
But do I hate it? No. Do I even hate racists? No.
How can one hate racism? That's like saying "I hate poverty! Poverty is shit!".

I realise that it's just a slogan and is intended to try and inspire people to take a stand against racism, but I can't help feeling completely patronised. Surely it's a given that every band you could speak to would be against pointless discrimination? Why does it need to be pointed out? Why does it need to be implied that theres an intrinsic link between being in a band and having common sense? Why does it need to be pointed out or implied that people who arnt part of this are somehow racists?

Do this group do anything apart from just use their celeb status to try and influence people, or do they give money to similiar.... "anti racism charities"?
