The Dandy Warhols' Curse

oceanRain [Edit] [Delete] 16:49, 2 January '08

I have a soft spot for the Dandy Warhols which may exceed their actual talent. In the late 90s, when my once high-flying career had crashed and my drug use was of epic Pete Doherty proportions...what really was upsetting was the music. All the *cool* kids were listening to Limp Bizcut shite. Seriously, now that's depressing.

Now, I've come to find out that there were many great records put out over this period, but you had to really look for them. And I was in no shape to look. Hell, that's about the time The Soft Bulletin came out, eh.

So my buddy says, put down the old Cure/Pixies records for a minute and check out The Dandys Come Down. And then there was The Strokes and Interpol and then British Sea Power and the Libertines and all this other great stuff.

But the Dandy's have burned out it seems. I mean, Odditorium is seriously awful. And many many many of my favorite bands today seem to have trouble stringing together more than two or three great records. I'm gonna call this the Dandy Warhols' Curse.

Of course, there're some exceptions to the rule, Spoon springs to mind, but for the most part I think it's real. Otherwise, why would I spend 15 minutes writing this shit?

Is this fundamental problem a sign of the times? Is it merely my perception?
