help!

I am trying to work out whether buying a mac is going to be affordable enough for me to do. I have used PC's to make music in the past with cracked copies of cubase and my experience with apple is precisely zero.

Can you get a copy of Pro Tools easily from a file sharing program or is it something that needs to be purchased? How does it compare to cubase?
