like, not recently, but ever in your life? research (as seen in the Guardian http://music.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2257596,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=uknews ) suggests that lots of people buy whatever "wins", which is rather odd considering it isn't really clear why things win, they just do.

i guess what i really want to know is what sort of person buys a record just because its won a brit award? and could DiS do something similar to maybe get some tiddly bands from selling 1000 copies to 40000?
